“I think RISD has a lot going for it,” Bono told me by email, “strong leadership and staff, excellent teachers, and supportive and involved parents and community members. I am running because I believe the board is committed to continuing to challenge the status quo and optimizing the learning environment and curriculum that will best prepare our kids for their global future; whether that is a four-year college, a community college, a meaningful job or the military.”

Bono is a certified financial analyst and investor relations consultant with an MBA from UT. Her 15 years volunteering in RISD schools includes work with the Wildcat Club, Wrangler Booster Club, Choir Boosters, PTA, Theater Boosters and Academic Decathlon. She played volleyball for Richardson High (RISD Trustee Kim Caston was her teammate) and was the Drum Major for the Golden Eagle Marching Band.

“I bring to the board an ability to think strategically and work cohesively, while still challenging assumptions,” continued Bono. “In my corporate career in financial communications, I assimilate input from diverse sources to help determine goals and strategies and deliver clear and transparent communications to my audience. I believe it is the job of the board to listen to the community, the teachers and the administration and to research options and possibilities that will ensure that our students are highly engaged in the classroom and in their extracurricular activities. I believe to do this, RISD must continue to evolve and grow in the curriculum we offer, and we must attract and retain teachers that inspire our kids. And we have to study ways to achieve these goals while operating efficiently within our financial constraints.”

The deadline to file as a candidate is February 27. The election will be held May 9.
