Manny Anzaldua III was getting out of his vehicle at The Vineyards at Forest Edge when two men robbed, shot and killed him. Now Lake Highlands is rallying around Anzaldua’s family to pay for his funeral.

The 54-year-old Wharton native lived and worked as an apartment manager at the complex, located at Forest and Audelia not far from Forest Lane Academy.

The Northeast Division is hosting a barbecue fundraiser for Anzaldua Friday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Vineyards at Forest Edge, 9669 Forest Lane.

His co-worker, Sami Bracks, also established a Facebook fundraiser to “show the support needed for his family and ensure that we do for them what he would have done for any of ours.” She described Anzaldua as an “amazing individual who not only was loved by many but was also an amazing mentor to many.”

We will update this post as we learn more.
