A 7-year-old boy was hit by a car Monday morning while walking to the bus stop near Skillman Street and Audelia Road’s intersection.

Police told Fox4News that the boy and his 11-year-old sister crossed the street outside of the crosswalk.

“They made it to the center median. They all waited there, and then the 7-year-old decided to run out into the roadway at which time the driver of a Mercedez struck the child,” Sgt. Warren Mitchell said.

The driver, who police do not fault, stopped and called for help. She is a school teacher and was distraught, Mitchell noted.

“She was not speeding. Speed was not a factor in this accident. So it was just the kids should have been crossing at the crosswalk.”

The boy is in very critical condition.
