A former cupcake shop that Advocate readers once voted the best in East Dallas is set to open another location at the edge of our neighborhood, Culture Map reported.

Smallcakes will open in February at the Medallion Center at 6464 E. Northwest Highway. (Ironically, it will occupy a space once home to a Jenny Craig location, according to Culture Map.) The location will be the second in Dallas and one of several in the DFW area, including Frisco, Plano and Garland.

The dessert chain, based in Kansas City, Missouri, has more than 100 flavors of cupcakes like caramel crunch, maple bacon, chocoholic and peanut butter cup. It will also offer ice cream, malts, cookies, brownies and a cupcake ice cream sandwich called the “cupcake smash.”

Owners John and Michelle Tatum told Culture Map construction is nearing completion at the location, which has a dining room and plenty of parking.

Smallcakes premiered in Dallas in 2013 at Mockingbird Station, but the location closed when the owners moved out of state. Let’s hope the dessert shop’s return is sweet.
