After a chase through Mesquite, Garland and Lake Highlands, police fatally shoot suspect

Law enforcement fatally shot a suspect after a chase ensued through Mesquite, Garland and Lake Highlands.

Mesquite police responded to a suspicious person call at about 3:45 p.m. Monday at the 2600 block of Towne Centre Drive, according to the Dallas Police Department. When officers arrived, the suspect fled in a vehicle.

Police followed the vehicle to Garland, where the suspect crashed on I-635 and Garland Road and left the scene on foot,  Mesquite and Garland police found the suspect in the 12100 block of Self Plaza Drive in Lake Highlands.

A struggle ensued between an officer and the suspect. Shots were fired, and the suspect was struck. No officers were shot, but a Mesquite officer was taken to a nearby hospital for injuries that were not life threatening.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at 8:55 p.m. 

The Dallas Police Department is investigating the incident.
