100 Women of Lake Highlands will team up with the Exchange Club and the Knights of Columbus in November for a project they are calling Packs 4 LH. The idea is to send every student at Skyview Elementary home for Thanksgiving break with a new backpack full of healthy non-perishable food, and all of LH is invited to participate.
Skyview, which serves more than 800 students in Pre-K through 6th grade, has approximately 680 kids living at or below the poverty level. More than 85% receive free or reduced lunch, and 37 different languages are spoken in Skyview households.
On Thursday, Nov. 2nd at 7 p.m., the groups will host a Kick Off Party at the Kay Cee Club, complete with cocktails, appetizers and live music by The Lupners. This event open to the community and free, thanks to sponsorship by LOCAL Resident Realty, though contributions will be accepted.
On Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 4 and 5, volunteers will be on street corners at Walnut Hill & Audelia and Walnut Hill & Skillman collecting donations. “Fill the Pack” happens Nov. 14 when volunteers place food items into backpacks, and on Nov. 16th packs will be delivered to students at Skyview’s Multicultural Night.
