12 Days of Christmas at Night celebrate the famous carol in a whole new way at the Dallas Arboretum.

All weekend except Christmas Eve and Christmas: The 12 Days of Christmas at Night event offers a rare chance to tour the arboretum after dark. The expansive gardens glow with the twinkle of more than 500,000 holiday lights, which are paired with classic carols for a festive holiday evening. Browse fanciful scenes with painstaking attention to detail, right down to the rhinestone-encrusted pears surrounding a rotating partridge. Tickets are $12. Times: 6-9 p.m.

Sunday, Christmas Eve, all are welcome, especially children, at the Happy Birthday Jesus Rally at Lake Highlands United Methodist Church’s sanctuary, 9015 Plano Road. The hour of worship, beginning at 5 p.m., is tailored to kids, who should come in pajamas and slippers and prepared to sing carols, hear the Christmas story and pose for fun family photos.

Friday and Saturday, Trans.lation, a Vickery Meadow-based arts and cultural group, hosts a community winter celebration at its home base, 8361 Park Lane, across the street from Tasby Middle School. Bring the family, exchange gifts, and enjoy food, art and entertainment from 4-6 p.m.

The Merry Tuba concert takes place in Downtown’s Thanksgiving Square at noon Friday. No, it’s not in Lake Highlands, but many Lake Highlands students and families are involved in the holiday tradition, which features 200 tubas booming holiday favorites — 1627 Pacific Ave.
