Competitors outfitted in cooky getups will overrun Norbuck Park Saturday morning during Dallas Running Club’s annual Cross Country 6-mile Relay, which involves members of three-person teams running two miles each. Some compete to be the fastest, while others vie for best “island-themed” or team-themed costumes. Sign your trio up online today (Wednesday before midnight) or race morning between 7-7:30 a.m. No team? No worries, you can be matched with one on race morning — just show up ready to run. The race begins at 8 a.m. at the southeast corner of Northwest Highway and Buckner Blvd. Registration is free for DRC members and $10 for non-member teams.

Car buffs, take note: the annual Auto Show at NorthPark Center begins this week, continuing on through Aug. 28. It offers visitors the chance to see the latest models of some very exclusive cars, including Aston Martin, Maserati, Porsche and Land Rover. Cars will be displayed all around level one, with dealership personnel on site to answer any questions.

It’s back by popular demand beginning Thursday Aug. 4 at the Pocket Sandwich Theater. “Herbbits, Wizards & Borks, Oh My!” finishes its summer run this month with its satirical take on “The Lord of the Rings.” You have until Aug. 20 to catch it. Buy tickets at the box office at 5400 E. Mockingbird Lane, call 214.821.1860 or visit pocketsandwich.com. They run $12-$25.

The Dallas Arboretum knows you and you family don’t really want to be outdoors for extended periods this time of year unless you’re inside a cool body of water, which is why they offer Dollar Days all August, which makes the idea slightly more appealing. During no other month can you enjoy the arboretum’s fully bloomed beauty for such a bargain. Even sizzling temps don’t change the fact that it’s “one of the world’s most breathtaking gardens,” right? Visit dallasarboretum.org for details. The park is located at 8525 Garland Rd. Parking is still $5, by the way.
