1. Lake Highlands Women’s League presents its 37th annual Holiday in the Highlands Home Tour Friday. The event enables the League to give away thousands of dollars in college scholarships to LHHS seniors annually and to support schools and agencies throughout Lake Highlands.Learn everything you need to know here
2. At the Bath House Cultural Center, “Frida Kahlo: La Flor de la Vida (The Flower of Life),” draws inspiration from the influential Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. The event kicks off with a free reception Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and continues through Jan. 30. The Bath House is located at 521 E Lawther.
3. If you’re looking for a perfect Christmas card opportunity, Santa will be at Elliott’s Hardware at 9540 Casa Linda Plaza on Saturday for a “Selfies with Santa” appearance from 2-5 p.m. Neighbors can bring their kids, families, pets and cameras for a snapshot with Santa Claus. Elliott’s will also have refreshments and ornament-making activity for the kiddos.
4. Thee Greyhound Adoption League of Texas (GALT) hosts Santa at the pop-up store GreytStore Charity Holiday Shoppe, located at 5803 Greenville Avenue between Southwestern and Lovers. Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m, visitors can take selfies with Santa or pose their pup for professional photographer John Hudson. Appointments for portraits can be made online and he will also accommodate walk-ins.
5. Staying busy, Santa Claus will make an appearance at the flagship Half Price Books on Northwest Highway starting this weekend. (The same Santa we wrote about in the December magazine last year.) In keeping with Christmastime traditions, Jolly Ol’ Saint Nick will be on hand through Dec. 20. Visit the website for dates and times. Bring the whole family including the dog for a snapshot with Santa. Also, canned food donations will benefit the North Texas Food Bank.
6. The Shops at Park Lane offers a holiday-themed photo opportunity. Until Dec. 30, throughout the shopping center you can find several adult, child and pooch-friendly sized “elfie selfie” stands. Plus a photo opportunity in the community park as the “I” inside the middle of a giant candy striped “B & G” display, in support of the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau’s ‘BIG Things Happen Here’ campaign. To be entered to win $500, share your photo on social media using the hashtag #SelfieWithAnElfie or upload a photo by visiting the ‘Selfie With An Elfie’ tab on The Shops at Park Lane Facebook page, where you can also vote for your favorite. The photo with the most votes will receive a $500 gift card to The Shops at Park Lane.
7. Through Dec. 30, “Miracle on 34th Street” is onstage at Dallas Children’s Theater. Get into the season with this Valentine Davies play that’s based on the classic 1947 holiday film. Dallas Children’s Theater is at 5938 Skillman. See dct.org or call 214.978.0110 for more. Tickets are $15-$28.
