The robbery complaintant on McCree, near Plano.

Parents delivering children to Lake Highlands Elementary yesterday witnessed something concerning — a 60-something man near Plano and McCree waving his arms in a panic, some tattered material (it later turned out to be duct tape) hanging from his wrists.

A Lake Highlands mom called 911 and, by the time she turned around after dropping off the kids, emergency responders were on the scene.

The following is from what she sent out to her neighbors:

At this point, the gentleman’s next door neighbor was out, and he told me that the gentleman reported to the firemen that “a guy” knocked on his door and when he answered it, the guy pushed him back into the house, duct taped his wrists together and duct-taped his his mouth and “robbed him — he stole everything.”

Sgt. David Burroughs with the Dallas Police Department says that the witnesses’ details, in general, “appear to be correct.”

He added that the perp also stole the victim’s car, which police located later yesterday.

“It was not known what was taken other than the complainant’s car. We found the car abandoned east of downtown.”

According to a police report, the victim lives in the 10600 block of McCree in a single family residence. The incident occurred between 7:30-7:50 a.m., when the suspect “tied up the complainant in his home and took property without consent.”

The police report, contrary to the report above, notes that the suspect entered the home through an open garage door.

The event is terrifying and no doubt should have every resident securing garage doors and on high alert when the doorbell rings, but Burroughs says he does not expect it to happen again.

“Personally, I feel that it is an isolated incident that someone wanted transportation. Detectives have some leads that they are following.”

Carol Toler contributed to this report.
