Rumors of a student with a gun “went viral” this morning at Berkner High School in Richardson ISD, Adam Perry of the Richardson Police Department confirms, but they were simply that — rumors. He says the student responsible for starting them will face “the appropriate consequences.”
Perry says the student who started the gun rumors has been identified by authorities (but will not make the minor’s name public). He may face school or police discipline, but Perry did not comment on which, only that he will receive adequate punishment for the uproar he caused (they came this close to evacuating the school, one teacher noted). The police took the rumors seriously — several officers reportedly responded and remain at the school — but are now “confident that there is no real threat,” but they will continue with “beefed up patrol” this week, just to ensure that students and faculty at Berkner feel safe.
Most Lake Highlands Advocate readers live in the Lake Highlands High School zone, but some of us — the Whispering Hills, Woodbridge and Jackson Branch neighborhoods for example — are in the Berkner zone (since the district was rezoned several years ago). My daughter is a Berkner student.
