I-635_east_illustration_optWe ran a piece last March about the I-635 redesign (part of a series about I-635 Skillman). At that time, legislators seemed to be leaning toward allowing a managed lane, among free lanes, to help fund the project.

Even the representative (Cindy Burkett) who filed the bill to prevent the use of any tolls told us that: The clear alternative to adding tolled lanes is to accept a longer and more expensive construction period and that it is likely that representatives and their constituents will need to decide between a toll component and a longer, more expensive project.

But now reports out of Austin, TX indicating that “tolled managed lanes might not be needed after all on the proposed $1.4 billion overhaul of the LBJ Freeway east of North Central Expressway … Now lawmakers are pitching what they call an ‘expiring revenue enhancement’ and you can read more about that here.
