Taqueria Latina: Rasy Ran

Taqueria Latina: Rasy Ran

Lake Highlands readers know a quality taco when they taste one, as evidenced in the Advocate’s recent best taco poll, in which Taqueria Latina’s street style offerings placed numero uno. The Skillman-Abrams taqueria opened to high expectations, because proprietor Fernando Barrera also owns the highly rated Latin Deli at Abrams-Northwest Hwy.

Tacos here are served Mexican/street style on thick homemade corn tortillas with cilantro, lime and radish.

Barrera says his original chorizo taco recipe seemed like it was missing something, so he added Peruvian pork, which produces that savory smoky smack. His successful fusion of Latin American flavors, he has said, is the result of working many years in the restaurant industry with friends from Miami, Colombia and Peru.

Best taco runner up is Rusty Taco (Upper Greenville). The tacos at Green Spot in the Old Lake Highlands area earned the bronze.
