Race at White Rock Lake

Organized races are things runners prepare for — often it is some sort of athletic milestone they’ve painstakingly been training months to achieve.

For non-participating neighborhood residents who just want to go to church or shopping for groceries on a Sunday morning, however, these races — when they occur in the White Rock area as they often do — too frequently cause surprise and vexation.

It is better for everyone if we can plan around these events, which happen less frequently in the summertime.

This weekend, Sunday July 13, brings the annual Too Hot To Handle 5k and 15k races. You can expect involved streets to be hindered from about 5 a.m. until about 11 a.m.

Here is a link to the course maps, which show impacted roads. It appears Old Lake Highlands, White Rock Valley and Flag Pole Hill areas will be affected. The race crosses Buckner near Mockingbird, and will run along Goforth and Doran Circle, for example. The 15k sticks mostly to the White Rock Lake Trail, but also begins and ends at Norbuck Park and affects Buckner. Here is a link to the parking restriction map.

If you want to join the fun, it’s not too late. Details here.
