The Wildcat varsity wrestling team became repeat district champions over the weekend, dominating the district meet and outscoring 2nd place Skyline by over 100 points. Eight team members delivered individual championships in their weight classes and 13 of 14 competed in the finals.
Coach Pete Grieder was named District 9-5A Coach of the Year, another repeat, and his third son to wrestle for the Cats, T.J., earned Most Outstanding Wrestler Award for the tournament.
Individual champions were: Jordan Lockhart, Greg Everett, Kap Lian, Evan Hayter, Reid Curnutt, Kendrell Willis, Van Cung and T.J. Grieder.
All 14 earned a spot at the regional meet this weekend.
“This was a total team effort,” said Coach Grieder. “I am proud of all these guys for stepping on to the mat and defending the strong tradition of Lake Highlands Wrestling. I have watched them grow from boys into men this season and it has been awesome! Even more important to me is the way the Wrestlers have come together from completely different backgrounds to form a close-knit family that worked together towards a common goal. Lake Highlands is a great place to be and these wrestlers proved it.”
The JV also won district, earning first place honors in 7 of 11 weight classes and placing 16 wrestlers in the top three spots of each weight class.
Congratulations, and go Cats!
