Icemaggedon threatened to derail this year’s Holiday in the Highlands home tour, but intrepid Lake Highlands Women’s League members made alternate plans. They hosted the midday luncheon and holiday bazaar as usual, but first canceled the tour to keep members and tour-goers safely off slick sidestreets. Then – a light bulb moment. They scheduled a first ever Twilight Tour and invited the community to view the ready-and-waiting homes.

“I loved the night time feel with all of the lights,” said Jennifer Welden, a graduate of Lake Highlands High who attended with her mom. “Having the twilight hours allowed those who may not be able to attend during the day to participate. Each home was so different and beautiful in their individuality. I loved getting to see all of my favorite people at one time and having a moment to visit with them is always so fun.”

“The houses were beautiful and had such a festive feel,” agreed Ann Villasana. “What a wonderful way to spend a Wednesday evening.”

“I always look forward to the Lake Highlands Women’s League tour because it is a time spent with good friends touring the beautiful homes in LH,” said Lisa Morris. “The evening tour was lit up with twinkling lights, well-lit homes and friendly faces that warmed my heart.”

“We didn’t know how this would work,” admitted Mary Barnes, co-chairman of the event with Chris Moomaw, “but it was very successful. About 750 came through in 3 hours, including lots of husbands, teachers and others who work full time.”

“This would not have worked without our wonderful homeowners agreeing to the twilight tour. Because of the generosity of the community, the bulk of the money had already been raised through sponsor donations and ticket pre-sales. Tonight was more about honoring our homeowners and those who support our organization. It was another great evening for Lake Highlands, confirming why we love LH!”
