Last summer, Forest Lane Academy received a new crosswalk, complete with flashing yellow traffic signals. It’s a little disconcerting that traffic doesn’t seem to slow at said crosswalk, but hopefully that is not the case during the school hours.
Our neighborhood’s city council representative, Jerry Allen, always has been big on school pride—it is a key step in taking ownership of one’s community and making our neighborhood a better place to live, he has said.
To that end, Allen ensured that the spanking new street sign over Forest Lane’s new crosswalk, rather than a generic, “School Crossing,” reads, “Home of the Jaguars.”
“Did you see the sign?” Allen asked, during a recent conversation about Richardson ISD improvements among other things. “Now that’s school pride.”
Forest Lane Academy is located within the densely populated, and crime-heavy Forest-Audelia area and is attended by about 700 elementary students.
