Lake Highlands moms Leah Noble and Gina Wright wanted to do something to show their appreciation to the members of the Dallas Police Department who worked so hard to protect the women of Lake Highlands and catch the predator among us. They’ve organized a project they’re calling “Shower Them with Kindness,” and they’re inviting you to participate.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, April 9, 10 and 11, Leah and Gina are encouraging you to bring cards, treats, food or other expressions of kindness to the Northeast Dallas substation at Audelia and Northwest Highway. They’ve made arrangements with the officers there, and your handmade cards, baked goods, pizza, drinks, coffee, etc. are welcome between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm.
“There’s been a discussion among the Lake Highlands community about how much we appreciate the increased police presence and attention to the crimes,” Gina told me. “This is just a simple gesture following in the footsteps of what other community members were already doing. We saw other members of the community organize care packages for the victims, put out flyers of the suspect’s sketch, raise reward money in hopes of leading to an arrest and increase neighborhood patrol by citizens and the police officers.”
LH resident Renee Long is planning to participate.
“I’ve been thinking how great I believe the police handled out situation,” she said. “They were proactive, wise, methodical, compassionate, all with a sense of urgency. I wanted to let them know how much I appreciated them. These women have come up with a great way to do it.”
“So far we have had a wonderful response,” said Leah. “Most people have said they wanted to do something but didn’t know where to begin.”
“The LH community really came together,” added Gina, “and I think we are all very grateful for local law enforcement’s collaboration on increasing the safety within our streets.”
If you’d like to organize a group lunch drop off, says Leah, you may contact Officer Bervin Smith at the station, 214-202-6255.
“I don’t think [the officers] are expecting any ‘thanks’ for doing what they love to do,” said Leah. My hope is that they feel the gratitude, respect and appreciation that our community feels for them daily. I think they will be amazed to know how very much LH residents appreciate their diligence during the recent events and their daily patrols.”
