Who sang “over the rainbow” 12,551 times? The answer is Judy Garland, and the question is one of dozens listed on the Trivial Pursuit game cards sandwiched between ketchup bottles and paper towel rolls on Fat Daddy’s tables. It’s an indication of the restaurant’s kid-friendly atmosphere, made more evident by the coloring sheets and crayons near the cash register, and the arcade corner with cartoons playing in the background. The rest of the restaurant’s TVs are switched to channels better suited for parents, and owners Mary-Frances and Wyatt Hurt don’t mind if your children spend the evening trying to conquer video games while you sit back, relax and enjoy a burger with their signature drink – free beer. For the kids, the menu has all kinds of junior meals for about $4, such as burgers, dogs, grilled cheese and something called corn chicken nuggets, which Mary-Frances Hurt describes as similar to corn dogs but with chicken inside. Fat Daddy’s also has chicken strips, which can be fried or grilled as a healthier option. The Hurts, who have three children of their own, added fresh fruit, salad and carrots to the junior meal menu as possible alternatives to the usual French fries and tater tots. That might just counteract the shakes, which both you and your children will have a hard time resisting.
