In response to requests from citizens and parents, the city in agreement with Richardson Independent School District (RISD) will construct a crosswalk and traffic signals across from Forest Lane Academy. Parts of the school’s parking lot and entrance drive will also be reconstructed. Construction began this month and will be completed in August.
Between 2008 and 2011, there were 18 accidents near Oakshire Place, the street directly across from the academy, according to this month’s council agenda item by assistant city manager Jill A. Jordan. This residential neighborhood’s proximity to the school can make jaywalking an attractive alternative to walking to the nearest crosswalks.
The project was on Wednesday’s council agenda though construction costs were already awarded in March.
