Be careful where you park as you travel outside LBJ and into Garland after June 1st. The GPD is training citizens to enforce handicapped parking rules by issuing tickets when cars are left in handicapped spots. Fines begin at $500.

Volunteers will receive training at the Garland Citizen Police Academy and must meet state and departmental requirements. Their vigilance and activism is intended to free up police officers for more urgent calls and to discourage able-bodied slackers from using a handicapped space they don’t need.
