This week, National Trust for Historic Preservation released the latest list of the 11 most endangered historic sites around the country.
NPR’s “All Things Considered” aired a program about the list this week, which includes a women’s hospital in Chicago – a clover-leaf-shaped architectural marvel that may be torn down to make way more research facilities for Northwestern University, which argues that the hospital is not a historical landmark. Also in danger is John Coltrane’s home on Long Island, which has become rundown and neglected.
We have local groups such as Preservation Dallas and the Old Oak Cliff Conservation League that work to save historically, culturally and architecturally significant buildings in the city. The DISD-owned buildings come to mind (Davy Crocket, Oran M. Roberts, etc.) as well as Deep Ellum and famous Oak Cliff landmarks.
