I love home tours, so it’s fortuitous that I live in this area. The Lake Highlands Area ECPTA just wrapped up its family-focused tour Wednesday, and it’s always fun to see the Christmas decor in neighborhood homes during the Lake Highlands Women’s League Holiday in the Highlands.
But I have to admit, out of all of the neighborhood home tours, my favorite is the White Rock Home Tour taking place this weekend. That’s because I definitely have a weakness for mid-century modern and contemporary architecture.
And the White Rock Home Tour focuses solely on these types of homes. This year’s tour features five homes right around White Rock Lake (and Hexter Elementary, for which the home tour raises funds) plus meet-and-greets with a few of the homes’ architects at specific times on Saturday and Sunday. There’s also a speaker reception featuring neighborhood architect Cliff Welch (we’ve written about him in our magazine, including his house and his new Enclave on Northcliff project) at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Design Within Reach on McKinney. Welch will speak on “Modernism Then and Now: the influences of post-war residential architecture”. Space is limited to 150, and reservations are required.
Tour tickets are $10 (get them at Green Spot, White Rock Coffee or specific Tom Thumbs) or $15 at the door on tour days. Or if you want free tickets, watch our Facebook page all day Friday for White Rock Home Tour ticket giveaways.
