Another 5k, this time at White Rock Lake, will benefit families of Dallas Police officers through the Assist The Officer Foundation.
Race director Mel Cyrak tells us this: The second annual White Rock 5K will be held at 8 a.m. at Winfrey Point at White Rock Lake Park.
The scenic course leads through the park and through the Peninsula Neighborhood, with a dramatic view overlooking the lake and the downtown skyline.
The race benefits the families of Dallas Police officers through the Assist The Officer Foundation. The goal of the funding is to help officers in the event of illness or accident to a family member so that an officer can concentrate on his or her job rather than worry about family problems.
In its first year the race donated almost $10,000 to the Assist The Officer Foundation, a significant sum for a new event.
The presenting sponsor is Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake and many area merchants are also sponsors. With such sponsorship backing all of the entry fees went to the ATO Foundation (ed note: that’s how it should be done!).
Enter the event online until Wednesday at Active.com by entering “White Rock 5K” in the search box. Or, sign up at the packet pickup in the lobby of the medical building behind Doctors Hospital this Thursday from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. and or Friday from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
