Update 3.15 28-year old Rogelio Belmonte was arrested and is charged with capital murder in this case.
Sabra Leavy, 76, was returning to her car in the parking lot of the Lake Highlands Wal Mart, in the 9300 block of Forest, last week when, reportedly, a man driving a dark-colored Ford extended-cab pickup grabbed her purse, dragged her across the lot and ran her over. Following the attack, Leavy lived long enough to tell her daughter and police what happened: the pickup pulled alongside Leavy’s car and the driver apologized for getting so close. Then he grabbed the purse, which was secured over Leavy’s shoulder, and sped away, dragging her. The victim had hip surgery on Friday but died from her injuries on Saturday. Wal Mart surveillance cameras caught the incident and police are interviewing persons of interest. We will keep you posted as we learn more.
