Even after three straight losses, two of which were close and hard-fought games, Lake Highlands is in position to make the playoffs out of District 9-5A.
All Lake Highlands has to do to have a guaranteed spot in the playoffs is win tonight against Richardson. Simple enough, right?
Berkner and Jesuit have already clinched the top two playoff spots. Skyline can get the fourth spot with a win against W.T. White.
Lake Highlands simply has to beat Richardson, on the road.
The last time these two teams paired up at Lake Highlands, Taylor Stell went for 29 points and Trey Bingham went for 20 in and 84-65 route.
However, Torrance Carr scored 21 points and hit a number of big shots in the third quarter to lead the Eagles to within three points.
Lake Highlands turned it on in the fourth quarter outscoring Richardson 25-11 for the eventual win, but Richardson has athletic guys who can get in the paint, and shoot from the outside.
From what I saw, late in that game, the big men for Richardson were all on the perimeter shooting three’s leaving point guards and shooting guards to battle with Stell and James Lonegran for rebounds.
If that’s the case tonight, Lake Highlands will have an easy road to the playoffs. Keep an eye out for the score on this game tonight, it’s a big one.
