Longer hours, different product mixes, better service — these are some of the ideas being implemented by local businesses to compete with the onslaught of online shopping, according to a story in the DMN’s business section today. Boutique gift store owner Cheryl Calvin with The Store in Lake Highlands (Northwest Highway at Ferndale in the Northlake Shopping Center) is quoted talking about her product mix and extended hours. For the last-minute shoppers among us, she’s open until 7 p.m. Wednesday and 8 p.m. Thursday; extended hours were among her competitive ideas.
