Proceeds from the first annual RISD Spirit Run will go to the RISD Excellence in Education Foundation

The RISD Excellence in Education Foundation is sponsoring a new fundraiser this fall – the RISD Spirit Run on Saturday, November 13th. A 2 mile fun run/walk will begin at 8 am and the 5K race will start at 8:30 at Galatyn Park in Richardson. Awards will be presented at 9:30 am. Organizers are hoping to create an autumn tradition binding the various neighborhoods of RISD together while raising funds to support the district’s students and teachers.

RISD Excellence in Education is sometimes referred to as an “academic booster club,” recruiting donors to provide what the district cannot through teacher wish-lists and special projects. LH’s Wild for Cats program is administered by the Foundation, as are the academic booster clubs of the other three high schools.

Various student groups from the four high schools will provide entertainment, including jazz bands, drum lines and cheer squads.

You can sign up for the event online here (the cost is $30), or you can arrive on race day at 7 am to handle registration (you’ll pay $35). (The price for students is $10.) If you’re willing to be a worker bee, you can sign up as a volunteer online here. If you want more information or if your company is interested in becoming a sponsor, you can email the LH coordinators Anne Dankberg or Donna Kent here.

In the words of Aaron Douglas Trimble, the perfect run is “the wind at your back, the sun in front of you and your friends by your side.” Happy running on November 13th.
