Lake Highlands senior Ricky Zorn was honored Tuesday night as the area’s top scholar-athlete at the National Football Foundation’s Gridiron Club of Dallas banquet at Cowboys Stadium.
Zorn was one of 53 area student-athletes recognized at the banquet, which featured the likes of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, SMU coach June Jones and other area football dignitaries. Zorn was selected as the top scholar-athlete of the bunch, winning a $2,500 scholarship. The scholarship money will come in handy as Zorn heads to Harvard next fall. Harvard, like all Ivy League institutions, does not award athletic scholarships.
Zorn, shown being congratulated by Gridiron Club president Gerald Brence, gave a short speech after winning the award. Zorn quarterbacked the LH football team the past two seasons in addition to playing guard on the basketball team and running track. He has also been ranked second academically in his senior class and is a member of the National Honor Society, student council and Mu Alpha Theta.
Zorn is the son of Jody and Sandra Zorn and his twin sister, Ashley, is a Lake Highlands cheerleader.
