Lake Highlands defeated Molina last night, but the second-to-last-place Jaguars gave the Cats a run for their money, jumping up 1-0 in the first few minutes and playing tough the entire game.

After Molina scored, sophomore Murphy Short played a long ball that dinked off a defender and went over the goalkeeper’s head. Later Murphy, shown in this photo, served up a corner kick and freshman Jack Blanton tapped it in. The first half ended 2-1.

As seen in this video, Murphy made a slick pass to senior Isaac Garcia, who shot past the goalie and into the corner of the net. Molina scored again and came close to tying it up, but they ran out of clock. Final score 3-2.

In the first round of playoffs, the Wildcats will face Sachse, the team that finished our season last year. Difference is, that was when they were first in their district and we were fourth. Now the roles are reversed.

“It has been four years since the Lake Highlands boys’ soccer team won a playoff game,” Coach Hanes Brindley told the boys by email. “Let’s get ready to change that!” The Cats face Sachse Tuesday, March 23 at 6 pm at Eagle Mustang Stadium on the Richardson High School campus. If you enjoy LH sports, consider yourself personally invited. Go Cats.
