If you have a credit card that offers points or cash back, you can get a nice bonus if you pay your property taxes through the Dallas County tax office Web site. Use the credit card that offers the perks — mine is cash back — and you’ll reap the benefits of paying a multi-thousand dollar tax bill.
The county site is reasonably easy to navigate. You don’t need your tax statement, but it helps. A couple of caveats: If you have an escrow account, you can’t do this. Also, the county site can get a bit slow this time of year, as lots of people pay on-line so they can take their property taxes as a deduction on their 2009 taxes. And it’s proably not a bad idea to check with your credit card company to make sure it won’t balk at a multi-thousand dollar charge.
