Sunday Dec. 13 White Rock Marathon, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

I vividly remember my first experience with the White Rock Marathon, when I was about 9 years old and I watched my uncle Mike run. By the time he crossed that Finish line after 26.2 miles, he was a barely-recognizable groaning, bent-over, shaking, limping shell of the vibrant 20-something who had taken me (on my bike) along on many of his training runs. I remember my dad grabbing hold of him and helping him to the first aid station. I thought to myself, ‘someday … I’m gonna do that’. Crazy. I know. Well, it took me more than 20 years, but I finally ran it last year. In fact, I’m doing it again this Sunday. Our photographer, Turk, became so inspired after photographing last year’s race that he’s also running this year. (Read about others doing the race here).

Here, you can find a map of the race course, so that you can either avoid it or join in the fun (I recommed joining in, of course).

Also this weekend, check out the White Rock Neighborhood Market — the Christmas extravaganza …
