The good folks at Highlands Christian Church received official board approval Nov. 6 to establish a community garden on the church property at 9949 McCree. According to the organizers, ground breaking is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 11 with the first work day, to include tilling, plot assembly and soil fill, scheduled for Saturday Dec. 13. They hope to have the garden ready by Jan. 1, 2009.

The 90×130 area of land will be divided into 30 plots, 24 of them 8×16 and six of them 8×24. Plot fee will be $100 annually, regardless of size. The Highlands Christian Community Garden (HCCG, the sister to LHCG) is putting out the call for plot holders. I’m already signed on and am thinking of names … Pairadise Phase II?  Pairadise Lost? They’re also putting out the call for community support and strong backs for the Dec. 13 work day. Much work is yet to come but before Lake Highlands knows it, there will be two lovely community gardens to boast.
