OK, so we don’t have club-hopping starlets or tabloid headliners, but we do have our own celebrities right here in Lake Highlands. Well, sort of. Neighbor Becky Boles and two of her children recently starred in a commercial for Richland Community College.  “We hit the big time  —there were even professionals who said ‘cut’,” Boles says of her somewhat surreal experience. “That was pretty shocking to watch TV and all of sudden your big ol’ face pops up.” Boles, her daughter Margot, and her son Mitchem, were asked to be part of a Dallas County Community Colleges marketing campaign this past spring. “They wanted a variety of ethnicities and ages, so we fit the bill.” Both of Boles’ children, who are Lake Highlands graduates, have taken classes at Richland while they’re home from Texas A&M.  “It’s pretty common for Lake Highlands kids to do that, which is nice because all those college credits transfer and Richland is a great school.” And Mitchem ended up landing a billboard off LBJ Freeway and Jupiter. “We are so goofy—we actually video taped the billboard. Who does that? We’ve had our 15 minutes of fame in Lake Highlands, but I think we’re on minute 14 now.” —MARLENA CHAVIRA-MEDFORD
