Every dog has it’s day — and your dog’s day is Friday, June 20, Take Your Dog to Work Day sponsored by Pet Sitters International. Now in its 10th year, the designation is part of an effort to get more people to adopt pets.
Here’s a site where you can register your office, post pics of your precious pets and more. Make sure to listen to the “Take Your Dog …” song on the site.
Yes, it is fur real, and a short web search reveals people plan to participate (and have in years past). So, if your boss has you on a short leash, you know, always barking orders at you … call off the dogs … er, let your dogs out … let sleeping dogs lie for a day. Go on, have a dog day afternoon. (Help, I can’t stop.)
Here’s the whole Dog to Work Day news release:
Take Your Dog To Work Day Celebrates the Canine Connection on Friday, June
20
June 12 /PRNewswire/ — On Friday, June 20, Pet Sitters
International’s 10th annual Take Your Dog To Work Day(R) will kick off the
summer celebrating the great companions dogs make and encouraging adoptions
of shelter dogs. This fun day with an important purpose gives people a
chance to bring their "best friend" to see what they do to bring home the
chow while it encourages dogless co-workers to adopt from a shelter or
rescue.
As "corporate canines" visit workplaces throughout the country, they won’t
be the only ones with a spring in their step. Dog owners can revel in the
fact that research studies report a link between dog ownership and reduced
stress and improved health for their human companions. "There’s nothing like
the loyalty and unconditional love of a dog to balance the fast-paced, high
tech nature of life today," says Patti Moran, President of Pet Sitters
International. "Whatever you have to deal with, when you come home and your
dog rushes to greet you with his tail wagging, the troubles of the day melt
away."
Dog adoption is especially important this year because of "foreclosure
dogs," abandoned as the housing crisis has forced families from their homes.
Shelters in hard-hit parts of the country have experienced a 30% spike in
dogs needing homes.
Pet Sitters International hopes to boost dog adoptions with a fun,
interactive and dog-centric website (takeyourdog.com) for interested
businesses and canine-enthusiasts alike, seeking information on how to get
involved. Businesses are encouraged to partner with local animal shelters,
rescue groups or humane societies and one of PSI’s more than 8,000 members
to host an event and promote local adoptions on this day.
Take Your Dog To Work Day was created by Pet Sitters International (PSI) in
1999 and bolstered in 2008 by sponsors Comfort Zone with D.A.P. and Modern
Dog magazine. This unique awareness event features an online photo contest
sponsored by Comfort Zone for anyone who wishes to feature their four-legged
friend at work.
