The Highlands I and II apartments just south of Northwest Highway and west of Lake Highlands Drive have a new owner, new names and a promised upgrade, according to the Real Estate Center at Texas A&M University.

Work has already begun on the 224 units at Highlands I, which has been renamed the Arbors, according to a leasing agent there. Highlands II, which has 132 apartments, will be rechristened Casa Serena. Boston-based Lindahl Group bought the properties — which were built from 1971 through 1979 — from a New York holding company for $11.5 million. Rents now range from $580 to $615 a month, according to the Real Estate Center. Lindahl already owns a Casa Serena in Arlington, but most of its properties are in smaller Southern markets such as Tyler, Texarkana, Beaumont and Huntsville, Ala.
