Talk to someone about Picasso’s Pizza & Grill, and the food almost always comes up second or third. It’s one of the few restaurants I know that gets more credit for its location than it does for what’s on the menu. When we did our video with councilman Jerry Allen, I thought we would have to restrain him, he was so excited that it had moved to Skillman and Walnut Hill.

So what about the food? Not bad, all things considered. I’m a huge pizza snob (having grown up in Chicago), and Picasso’s gets the job done. The Mama’s Homemade (a nifty name) is solid, and the rectangular shape is a nice touch. More impressive is the meatball sandwich, which is almost as good as the one at Louie’s in East Dallas, which to my mind is the best in town. Also worthy: the Italian chopped salad, though I wish they’d cut out the canned olives or buy better ones.

I use delivery — it’s mostly timely, although sometimes the food is not as warm as it should be.
