Imagine a company that describes itself as specializing "in farm fresh produce, purchased from local growers when possible." And that "customers enjoy a friendly, educated staff in a fun and easy-going atmosphere." Or that it "proudly supports local communities with product donations, sponsorships, educational events and more."
Sounds like a perfect fit for this part of town, and especially for the proposed Lake Highlands Town Center, doesn’t it? But the company, Sprouts Farmers Market, just announced its fifth store in the Dallas area — in Frisco. The other four, not surprisingly, are in Plano, Flower Mound, Southlake, and North Dallas.
I’ll make a few phone calls over the next couple of days to see if Sprouts is in the mix. The company certainly seems ideal for this area. Its stores are just 28,000 square feet, which is small enough to fit into the Town Center (or the older strip centers around here). It sells beer and wine, but apparently knows how to operate in a dry area like North Dallas. And it obviously doesn’t mind competing with Whole Foods and Central Market, which have stores in most of those places.
