WIRED FOR SPORTS. A new internet broadcast agreement will enable sports fans to hear play-by-play accounts of all the Richardson district’s high school football, basketball, baseball and softball games this year. The internet broadcasts began Sept. 8 at the start of the RISD football season. Dallasnews.com is also a partner in the agreement. Log onto the dallasnews.com site and go to the high school sports section to find the link to the RISD coverage. Metro sports communications will continue to broadcast Lake Highlands High School football games through KLUV 1190 AM.

Congratulations to the Lake Highlands Freshman Center Cheerleaders who went to ACA Camp at TWU this past summer and won the ACA National Bid, Camp Champion runner-up, Fun Jam Winner, Spirit Stick and ACA Achievement. Lake Highlands Varsity Cheerleaders recently attended National Cheerleader Association Camp in South Padre Island where they received Top Team, Stunt Smart, jump, and Choreography Awards. Also superior ratings in all evaluations; spirit sticks, and a bid for NCA Nationals. Lauren Hawkins and Haley Heard received bids to be on NCA summer staff. Haley Heard was selected “all-around best cheerleader.” All squad members and mascot were nominated for All American, and eleven were selected. The squad includes Jovan Farris, Abby Evans, Courtney Hesseler, Erin Abney, Hanna McCane, Shannon Purnell, Suzie Brown, Whitney Mildren, Emily Clark, Libby Harris, Mary Gallagher, Ashley Blair, Lauren Hawkins, Haley Heard, Hillary James, Teia Brewster and Zoe Morris. The White Rock Newcomers Club will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Holiday Inn, LBJ and Jupiter. Hospitality time is 9:30-10 a.m.; the program will be given by the Police Choir. North Texas Boston Terrier Club, Inc. is a non-profit group with several neighborhood members that gives abandoned, abused and homeless pure breed Boston Terriers a second chance for a good life. Neighborhood resident, Rex Hudson has joined the Dallas Arboretum as Art Director. He was formerly a graphic artist for Northwest Bible Church in Dallas for five years.

Green Thumb Ronda Hardt, sales associate with Ebby Halliday Realtors’ Northeast, helped in making the new outdoor center at Martha Turner Reilly Elementary a dream come true with her contribution. This center includes a pond and wildflower/butterfly garden, and space for a student vegetable garden.

Neighborhood pastel artist Niki Gulley was recently accepted in two juried art festivals to be held this fall. You can view Gulley’s work at the upcoming Cottonwood Art Festival, Oct. 7-8 from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.  at Beltline and Coit in Richardson. Gulley was also accepted in her first Museum Show “Texas Artists Museum Gulf Coast National Art Competition” with her new work “Fall Color.” This will be on display in October in Port Arthur. Gulley’s work is also exhibited at The Enchanted Gallery in Preston Center, Southern Star Gallery in Frisco, and the Legacy Gallery in Rockwall.
