BUY YOUR AD NOW: The Wildcat Club is taking ad reservations for its 1994 Football Program. This year, in addition to the Football Program, a Fall Sports Program, Winter Sports Program and Spring Sports Program will be published. INNOVATIVE TEACHER: White Rock Elementary teacher Barbara Sutton recently was honored in RISD’s Recognizing Innovations for Student Education Foundation. Sutton received $1,000 for her work.
GOLF INVITATIONAL SET: The Dallas Academy Golf Invitational will be June 6 at noon at the Lakewood Country Club. The event is the school’s main fund raiser and proceeds will pay for the new school gymnasium.
The tournament will feature Thad Daber, the current World’s One-Club Champion and holder of the Guinness World’s Record for the lowest round of golf using one club. The entry fee is $250 and includes cart. The format is a Four-Man-Best-Ball with a computerized handicap system. For information, call 414-7200.
NATIONAL ACADEMIANS: Several Northlake Elementary students have qualified to participate in the Motivation for Academic Performance program sponsored by Duke University Talent Identification Program. Selected students had to achieve the 95 percentile or above on the standardized achievement, aptitude or mental ability test. Students selected for the program are Emily Freshwater, Colleen Kelly, Rachel Walker, Sherrie Owens, Kimberly Varhaug, Bobby Cutrer, Justin Davis, Blake Campbell, Annie Clark, Radia Amari, Kristen Lawhorn, Buddy Gray, Talent Ere, Robbie Ackley, Greg Tomlinson, Brian Fink, Ian Townsend and Chuck Jamison.
YOUTHS OF THE MONTH: Amy Pita and Carl Christy were selected as the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands’ March youths of the month.
Pita is ranked six in her class with a 98.6 grade point average. She is a national merit finalist and a Peer Helper, a mentoring program for elementary and junior high students. She has played soccer for eight years and was named a Dale Hansen Scholar Athlete in December. She is a member of the Math Club, National Honor Society and the Girls’ Service League. She plans to attend Rice University and study physics.
Christy is a member of the football team, National Honor Society, Math Club and the International Thespian Society. He is an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He dances with the Wranglers Country and Western Dance Team. He has applied to the Naval Academy and Texas A&M.
