“I am thrilled to be a part of this event,” says O’Rourke, who has been an active member of the Dallas Chapter of Tri-Delta since 1982.

Husband Michael O’Rourke, executive vice president of Texas Independent Bank, is a fourth-generation Lakewood resident. He is the son of Joe and Evelyn O’Rourke and his great-grandfather, Joseph B. Salmon, developed the Hollywood Heights neighborhood near Lakewood.

Mrs. O’Rourke, who will become Tri-Delta board director in two years, credits her husband for supporting her work on the antique show.

“Tri-Delta’s goal is to not only heighten local awareness in the decorative arts but also to raise the money necessary to help fund local institutions,” O’Rourke says.

The charitable event, in its 18th year, has put $2.2 million dollars back into the community in the last two years through donations to a variety of non-profit organizations.

Beneficiaries include the Sammons Cancer Center at Baylor Medical Center, the Dallas Museum of Art’s Decorative Arts Fund, an endowed scholarship at Southern Methodist University, and funding for local children to attend Camp Esperanza, a pediatric oncology summer camp.

This year’s event, showcasing antiques from 47 international dealers, includes jewelry, paintings, clocks, fine china, rugs and English, French and Oriental furniture. Prices range from $20 to $200,000.

In addition to merchandise, the public is invited to bring antiques for professional appraisals at $5 per item.

Special events for the show include a Collector’s Hour Preview Party, from 6:30-10 p.m. Feb. 10. Admission is $95, $85 for admission at 7:30 p.m. A lecture luncheon on Wedgwood China is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 12. Guest speaker will be Dr. Barbara Wedgwood of England.

“In conjunction with Dr. Wedgwood’s appearance and the release of her new book, “Minus The Middle E,” O’Rourke says, “the Dallas Museum of Art will loan its Wedgwood ceramics exhibit.”

Other Lakewood Tri-Delta participants are Pam Brawner, Joan Wright, Libby Burnside, Carey Roper, Mary Ellen Wilensky, Loe Wilson, Terri Kennedy, Julie Martin, Karen Vaught and Stacia Harris.
