Our waiter at Neighbor’s Casual Kitchen answered this question without hesitation on a recent Sunday morning: the pulled pork eggs Benedict, the chicken fried rib-eye and eggs, and the New Orleans-style French toast.

The pulled pork eggs Benedict distinguishes itself from the classic dish with a potato pancake instead of an English muffin, and jalapeño-infused hollandaise sauce that gives this dish a spicy kick. It was the favorite of everyone at the table.

The crispy fried rib-eye also left everyone wanting more, and the New Orleans French toast, dusted in powdered sugar with drizzled bourbon syrup, tasted like it came straight out of the French Quarter.

Neighbor’s Casual Kitchen also has a full bar open for service, with $2.95 mimosas and $3.95 bloody Marys. Most brunch items are $10 or $11, with a $6 menu for “junior brunchers.”

This new Lake Highlands hot spot replaces the beloved Highlands Café, and gives us a reason to stay in the neighborhood for brunch rather than venturing out. Neighbor’s Casual Kitchen is open for brunch Saturdays and Sundays, 9 a.m.–2 p.m.
