If high school football ever gets back to the gridiron after the pandemic, Wildcat Stadium looks to be the center of scoring action. Dallas Morning News sportswriters have named quarterback Mitch Coulson the #1 player to watch based on last year’s rushing yards.

Coulson, playing as a junior in 2019, had 241 carries for 1,411 yards and 14 touchdowns. Coulson was aided by then-senior Tyson Washington, another player with 1,000+ rushing yards. It’s been a decade since the Wildcats had two 1,000-yard rushers on the field. Quarterback Ricky Zorn went on to play at Harvard, and Desmond Roland went on to play at Oklahoma State.

Last year’s team had the fifth most rushing yards of any 6A team in the Dallas-area, and their two playoff games were exciting for Wildcat fans and families. Now Texas football just needs some big ole O-linemen to flatten COVID-19 so our teams can take the field.
