When you turn up at Councilman Adam McGough’s Town Hall meeting tonight/Tuesday, expect to hear an update on what his team has accomplished during his first two terms of office – especially over the past year. McGough sat down with me over the weekend between son, Noah’s, Dallas Cup soccer matches to share a sneak peek of his State of the District address.

Development continues at Lakeridge Village, Lake Highlands Town Center and other areas of District 10, and McGough will introduce Michael Herrera, who’ll bring Dog Haus Biergarten to the LHTC in coming months. Dog Haus, a California-based restaurant chain, serves custom-made sausages, burgers and hot dogs. First Watch, a new breakfast and lunch spot, is under construction and a dog park is on McGough’s LHTC wish list. A revamp of Lakeridge Village is currently underway.

Construction begins soon on the new Willie B. Johnson Gym & Senior Center in Hamilton Park and the new Forest Green Library, and McGough is working with Texas Instruments in hopes that their $3.1 billion planned expansion nearby will result in grants and partnerships promoting STEM education for students and seniors. Fingers crossed.

The Youth Boxing Gym at Forest Audelia is keeping kids off the streets and crime-magnet J’s Food Mart at Whitehurst at Skillman has been demolished, but D10 residents are reporting an uptick in crime on Nextdoor.com – the modern day spot for watercooler discussion. Reps from Project Safe Neighborhood, the partnership of federal and local law enforcement focusing major resources on D10, will be on hand to give an update regarding their recent successes and plans to keep up the pressure.

The Exchange Club July 4th Parade is one of Lake Highlands’ most enjoyable neighborhood events, and Hamilton Park leaders have plans to organize a Juneteenth Community Parade. The group, including energized young go-getters, is currently seeking mentorship from July 4th parade planners and sponsors for their event.

DART does a great job getting citizens downtown or to DFW Airport quickly, but McGough has proposed a “transit circulator” – think D10 trolley – to help Lake Highlands and Hamilton Park folks bebop around our neighborhood easily, and with a little flair.
