The Dallas Bomb Squad has determined the suspicious trash bag left near a Lake Highlands abortion clinic was a hoax intended to spark fear.

At a mid-day news conference, Dallas Police said the bag, found by protesters with the Pro-Life Catholic Committee near the Southwest Women’s Surgery Center on Greenville Avenue at Royal Lane, was harmless. A dozen units, including the bomb robot, had responded just after 8 a.m. Authorities evacuated the clinic and surrounding businesses until they could determine the bag’s contents.

Executive Assistant Chief David Pughes said the person who left the bag could face charges if found.
