Fresh off a third place finish at the Highland Park tournament, the Lake Highlands boys basketball team plays Mesquite at 7:30 tonight in the LH gym (JV at 6 p.m.)
"They [Mesquite] are always good, sometimes better than that," LH coach Rob Wylie said. "With the football playoffs, our staff has really been stretched too thin to do any scouting, so we’ll rely on phone calls and info from previous years to prepare for them."
Wylie said he hopes to get football players Ricky Zorn, Matt Werther and possibly others back into the mix "sometime soon."
Even without the additional personnel, the Wildcats have put together a 3-1 record. LH beat host Highland Park, 65-55, on Saturday for third in the Scot Classic. LH opened the tourney with a 76-54 rout of Midlothian. The Wildcats’ only loss was in the semifinals, 69-56, against Flower Mound.
"We played fairly well for this time of year," Wylie said. "We led Flower Mound until the very end of the third quarter, and then we couldn’t score and they shot a lot of free throws. We’ll take 3-1 most weeks, especially the first week."
