Former Wildcat Avery Atkins saved the day Saturday when she scored a soccer goal in double overtime to secure the 1-0 win for the Lady Raiders of Colgate University. The 2009 graduate of LHHS headed the ball into the net as time was running out in the home game in Hamilton, New York against American University. It was the second goal of the season for Avery, a freshman.

While at Lake Highlands, Avery served as captain of the Lady Wildcats, leading her team to regionals after winning the district championship. She was named District 9-5A Offensive Player of the Year and was chosen to be a Dale Hansen Scholar Athlete of the Week. Avery also danced as a Wildcat Wrangler and was president of the National Honor Society. Next up, Avery and her team will travel to Worchester, Massachusetts to face Patriot League rival Holy Cross this Thursday.
