DPD officials say an undercover officer assisting the department’s Street Racing Taskforce observed a 2007 GMC Yukon speeding near 11300 Garland Road on Dec. 6. After the officer notified nearby units, uniformed officers conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle in the 11300 block of McCree Road and found two individuals in the car.

After identifying the driver and passenger, police say the passenger — identified in a statement as 34-year-old Jesus Jonathon Garza — was found to have an active warrant for his arrest due to a parole violation tied to an earlier burglary charge. Officers additionally discovered Garza to be in possession of cocaine. He was arrested and has been charged with a parole violation and possession of cocaine, according to Dallas County Jail records.

Police say the vehicle’s registration had expired and that the driver failed to produce valid insurance at the time of the traffic stop, leading to it being towed. During an inventory of the vehicle, 445.8 grams of cocaine and 47.7 grams of methamphetamines were discovered, according to a police statement.

Money was also found in varying cash amounts, which is common in the sale of narcotics, police say.

The driver, identified by police as 48-year-old Moises Perez, was arrested and charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance. Perez was additionally charged with resisting arrest.
