Lake Highlands High School quarterback Chuck Smith has been named SportsDay offensive player of the week after an exceptional performance against Flower Mound.
Smith completed 23 of 27 pass attempts for 409 yards and five touchdown passes en route to a 52-38 win over Flower Mound Friday night. On Monday, the Dallas Morning News named Smith SportsDay offensive player of the week for his efforts.
The senior finished the game without a single turnover as he completed over 85% of his passes to eight different receivers, including Ollar Osarollor, who finished the night with 106 receiving yards and a touchdown on four receptions.Â
Following the win, Lake Highlands has risen to make its first appearance this season in the SportsDay Dallas-area high school football rankings at #20.
He has yet to throw an interception through three games this season and has already eclipsed 1000 passing yards on the year. Over the summer, Smith turned in another five-touchdown performance against Irving MacArthur in the state 7-on-7 tournament.
Standing at 6-foot-1, the senior quarterback transferred to Lake Highlands from Highland Park in January. In February, Smith received an offer from Sacramento State.
Lake Highlands will have a bye this week before opening district play against J.J. Pearce High School on Sept 25.
