Located south of Estate Lane and east of Audelia, McCree Cemetery is a 2.6-acre plot founded in 1866 by local families. Caretakers have kept it locked up since vandals began sneaking in to topple graves and make mischief, and in recent years, organizations and individuals have worked together to restore, document and preserve the site’s fascinating history.

Preservation Dallas secured a $200,000 grant from the B.B. Owen trust for a big restoration and mapping project in 2013, and the city of Dallas designated the cemetery as a historic landmark five years later. Descendents of Little Egypt pioneers, whose families are buried there, hosted a cleanup and reunion in 2023.

Master storytellers Peggy and Gene Helmick-Richardson will be at the twilight tour to set the spooky scene. Tickets are $20 each and available online here.
